Month-by-month, without pretending one season fits everyone
The right month depends on whether you want swimming, mountain walking, cultural cities or quiet roads. Albania changes dramatically between coast and altitude.
April and May: green Albania
Rivers run full, hills are bright and cultural days are comfortable. High mountain routes may still be limited, but Berat, Gjirokastër, Krujë and Përmet are excellent.
June: the all-rounder
The coast is warm, mountain roads are open and peak crowds have not fully arrived. For a first trip that mixes regions, June is hard to beat.
July and August: swim early, plan carefully
Expect heat, busy coastal roads and lively beaches. Start cities early, reserve coastal stays and use long lunch hours rather than fighting midday sun.
September and October: the slow favourite
Sea temperatures remain inviting in September while paths and heritage towns quiet down. October is superb for food, colour and southern road trips.
